Heritage Open Day

In September we took part in the Heritage Open Days Scheme. Keynsham Abbey was open to the public on two Saturday afternoons with a guided talk being held on both days.

The first Saturday was extremely hot with temperatures in the high 30s. Nevertheless, a number of visitors arrived. Our chair, Elaine Cook, gave a talk on the Abbey’s history, re-arranging the order so that we could sit or stand in the shade as much as possible.

By the second Saturday the temperature had dropped considerably and a light drizzle had taken the sun’s place. Obviously, rain is no deterrent though as visitors continued to arrive throughout the afternoon. Elaine’s talk was well received with several kind comments and a lively Q&A session.

Over the two Saturdays we had 89 visitors in total. This was very encouraging and we are looking forward to the Heritage Open Days next year (Saturdays 7 & 14 September 2024).
